On Friday, May 1, at 7:30 PM, The Houghton Choir will perform the music of twentieth-century French composer, Maurice Duruflé, including his innovative and passionate Requiem. The Choir will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra of strings, trumpets, timpani, harp, and organ played by Dr. Judy Congdon. The vocal soloists are graduate student Jonathan Hutmire, and voice faculty member Dr. Kimberly Prins Moeller. Written during WWII and premiered shortly after, Requiem combines Gregorian chant, lush romantic harmonies, and innovative chromaticism into a devout work that combines the ancient with the modern, the serene with the dramatic.
